Automotive Assistant Controller needed for a well-established dealer group in Bergen County, NJ. This is for a consolidated automotive accounting office that handles multiple franchises. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies and helping set up control systems. Must be organized, have an excellent eye for detail, and carry out tasks autonomously and collaboratively. The goal is to contribute to keeping the company's accounting and financial processes up to standard and ensure accurate financial reporting and control. The successful candidate will have a strong background in automotive accounting and multi-franchise experience. CDK experience highly preferred.
This person will report to, and work closely with, the Automotive Controller on a daily basis. The Assistant Controller hired will be responsible to help oversee, manage, and train a team of 10-12 individuals. Likewise, this person will be responsible to ensure that the accounting staff is held accountable and submitting their work in both a timely and accurate fashion. The Assistant Controller hired will not be responsible to submit the month end financial statement, however help prepping the statement is a big plus! Must have both automotive accounting experience and experience managing a dealership accounting office to be considered for this role. Responsibilities:- Generally oversee the day-to-day functions within the dealership's accounting office and manage of the accounting office staff.
- Maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and to safeguard the dealership’s assets.
- Reconcile schedules.
- Monitor and reconcile bank accounts.
- Keep the Controller informed of any key issues relating to the financial activities and accounting office staff.
- Work closely with the Controller in preparing month-end, quarterly, and year-end documents and reconciliations.
- Respond to inquiries from the Controller and/or upper management on a wide range of financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
- Provide accounting support to management team.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Run and review expense trend reports on a monthly basis.
- Assist auditors as needed (floor plan, workers' comp, corporate, etc.).
- Balance bank ledger.
- Fill-in for lower level accounting staff if they are absent
- Work on special projects as requested by upper management
- Training and cross-training of accounting staff
- Assist in other duties as required by the Controller
- Compensation will commensurate with experience but will be in the $100,000 - $125,000 range depending on experience and track record.
