Job Summary:
DT Professional Services is seeking a Technical Editor/Logistician to support our team on a full-time basis in support of our U.S. Navy customer! This role will require a strong skill-set of Technical Writer/Editor and will be focused on the Technical Manual Support Services for the Aegis Weapon System (AWS) and is onsite in Port Hueneme, CA in Ventura, CA.
The Technical Editor will be responsible for accurately editing both format and structure for technical manuals and produce structured electronic manuals in SGML, XML and S1000D and FrameMaker 19 in compliance per U.S. Navy approved DTDs. You will be editing technical graphics for insertion into technical manuals. In this position you will be part of a team that is key in providing detailed and precise technical manuals for the U.S. Navy (Ships, Subs, Military Watercraft, and Unmanned Systems).
Responsibilities:
- Execution of tasks supporting Technical Data Elements, development, distribution, and sustainment of required Technical Documentation, Manuals, Publications and Notices
- Development and update of IPS Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs)
- Acting as a liaison with all engineering disciplines, such as Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Test, Materials and Processes, and Structural design functions
- Developing operator-level and maintainer-level documentation for complex Navy systems (ships, subs, military watercraft, and unmanned systems)
- Collaborating with functional management, program management and execution team to ensure technical success while balancing goals, approaches, and risks
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have an active DOD Secret Clearance
- 2+ years’ experience technical writing and editing technical documentation in a military or civilian environment
- Advanced skills - FrameMaker 19, Adobe Acrobat, ArborText
- 2+ years’ experience interviewing and working with SMEs
- Related experience in technical manual development
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- 5+ years’ experience technical writing and editing technical manuals
- Experience authoring/editing in Adobe FrameMaker 19 to current
- Understanding of SGML concepts, Epic Editor, Contenta, XML, MS Word, Corel Graphics Suite and Adobe
- Experience with Acrobat is highly desired
- Previous U.S. Navy, DoD or other government publication experience highly desired
The compensation range for this position: $28 - $40 hourly.
