The Strategic Sourcing Organization at American Express Global Business Travel (GBT) is responsible for the enterprise-wide sourcing and contracting strategy with third-party vendors to best support our business units at GBT in accordance with policy. As new products and technologies are constantly being introduced into the market, GBT must remain on the forefront and work to continue to improve our vendor partnerships, create enterprise value and improve employee programs.
The Strategic Sourcing Manager develops and completes strategic plans, in partnership with our business stakeholders, also known as Vendor Relationship Managers (VRMs), with a strive to drive value and savings across the organization that will translate to our customers, suppliers, and employees. These efforts are in collaboration with a number of teams and partners including legal, risk & compliance, information security, privacy, and payments to ensure GBT has a strategic, effective and compliant vendor program.

As a member of the Strategic Sourcing Organization, you will be part of a diverse and dedicated team who support the following categories:- Corporate Services including HR Services, Marketing & Communication, ESG, Facilities, Professional Services, Audit Services, Consulting, and Tax & Audit Services
- Product, Platform, & Technology including IT Software, Hardware, Software Maintenance, SaaS, Information Security, IT Labor, Telecom, Infrastructure, Financial Systems, and various internal and client-facing applications
- Sourcing Optimization and Operations, supporting the organization through efficiencies in process, tools, policies, financial and business reporting and analysis, and vendor and VRM communications including facilitation of questions, blocking issues, and mentorship
This specific role will focus on these key areas
- Collaborate closely with our stakeholders on key negotiations, strategies, and technology improvements to continue implementing GBT’s strategy in support of the things we value for our customers, travelers, and employees.
- Engage across a variety of categories and verticals, with a heavy focus on Corporate Services categories, including but not limited to HR, Professional Services, and additional enterprise-wide valuable vendor services.
- Analyze, validate, and align with business partners on opportunities to ensure driven rates across our vendor program
- Recommend strategic opportunities to evolve capabilities and functions in an effort to deliver savings to the organization and additional value both internally and externally
- Consider GBT’s Environmental, Social, and Governance programs in all vendor discussions and negotiations, e.g.,
- Purchase with purpose by empowering our vendor relationship managers with ESG sourcing information to support GBT’s goals in diversity and sustainability across the organization.
- Exercise ethical sourcing practices by embedding ESG into each sourcing decision, strategic requirements, and vendor selections, supporting progress towards our Strategic Sourcing Targets in relation to GBT policies, Supplier Diversity, and customer data platforms and science-based target initiatives.
Key responsibilities for this role will include
- Lead the end-to-end contracting processes for third-party vendor agreements through the use of approved processes and tools including but not limited to:
- Coordinate contract feedback and recommended edits across the respective subject matter authorities
- Thoughtful engagement with collaborators and vendors on commercial and performance management negotiations
- Coordinate timelines and expectations with vendors and partners
- Facilitate agreement completion including signing memos and contract execution
- Optimally understand and work with each business functions on their requirements, budgets, and opportunities to align on key principles and complete priorities to drive customer value and improve GBT’s EBITDA
- Collaborate throughout GBT to support the ongoing development and implementation of strategies to evolve and expand our sourcing strategies across the enterprise
- Communicate as appropriate with senior leaders on key initiatives, metrics, commercials, performance, and strategies.
- Improve the value story of Strategic Sourcing through effective documentation and tracking of savings, cost avoidance, and / or revenue opportunities.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-years prior experience supporting strategic sourcing principles including, procurement, negotiations (client or vendor), contracting, purchasing, or the equivalent
- Strong and confirmed commercial and financial competence with a focus on partnership and negotiations
- Strategic orientation, change management and thought leadership
- Confidence in leading and presenting across the organization and in exciting scenarios
- Consistent track record of owning and getting results through personal accountability, organization, and self-managed prioritization
- Positive relationship management and teamwork skills across various areas of the business
- Ability to influence across functions, get results, and optimize opportunities to support financial benefit to the organization
Location
The US national annual base salary range for this position is from $70,000 to $140,000. The national range provided includes the base salary that GBT expects to pay for the role. Actual base salary will be based on factors including the scope and complexity of the role and the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and work location.
