The Dean of Security and Global Studies serves as a senior academic officer for the School. The Dean’s primary responsibility will be to assure the quality of the programs and courses, leading the faculty, and guiding and managing daily decision making and departmental operations. This senior leadership position requires the Dean to be present, as needed, both on campus and in the community, serving as the face of SGS innovation for the University. The Dean will also focus on supporting community partnerships and innovative responses to the nation’s current and emerging SGS needs with relevant and high-quality programs, courses, and other credit and non-credit offerings.

The Dean leads and executes initiatives in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan and the Academic Strategic Plan. The Dean is expected to work collaboratively with Department Chairs, fellow Deans, Vice Presidents, Directors, the President’s Cabinet and University constituency groups to promote shared governance. Direct supervision of Department Chairs, Assistant Department Chairs and Assistant/Associate Deans within the School and the School Administrative Assistant.
Responsibilities:
- The Dean of the School of Security and Global Studies shapes and articulates a vision for the school’s growth consistent within the established enrollment goals, mission, and strategic plan of the university.
- The Dean interfaces with the National Security, Homeland Security, and Intelligence Studies communities nationally and internationally to ensure programs and offerings are industry relevant and current, and to promote programs that encourage enrollment and retention of students as current and future leaders in these industries.
- The Dean assesses the programs, faculty, and staff within the School with a plan for strengthening the programs with appropriate accreditation and recognition from Board of Trustees, Higher Learning Commission, and/or Centers of Excellence in the areas of National Security, Homeland Security, Intelligence Studies, Military Studies and International Relations.
- The Dean serves as the subject matter expert in the assigned area of expertise; fosters relationships with school/government/business/community agencies, industries and institutions; promotes the department's image to the profession, other academic institutions, and the community.
- The incumbent develops and maintains a structure that promotes and supports collegiality within the School of Security and Global Studies and supports a collegial environment across all schools and departments of the University to analyze and resolve concerns and issues.
- The Dean oversees Department Chairs in the school and provides leadership to the School; responsible for quality assurance of existing programs, development of new programs, working with DC’s to ensure courses are scheduled and that faculty satisfactorily complete teaching responsibilities meeting goals of curriculum quality and teaching excellence.
Requirements:
- A Doctoral degree in a disciple served by the school from a regionally accredited institution is required.
- Significant experience in a discipline related to a program(s) in the School of Security and Global Studies. Experience with intelligence, national security, cybersecurity, or global security is preferred.
- Five or more years of teaching experience, preferably at an online institution.
- Five or more years of experience as an academic leader whose responsibilities included leadership of personnel and budget management.
- Leadership experience in the intelligence community, cybersecurity, or military is highly preferred.
- Proven experience in leadership and management of programs and people.
- Experience and proficiency with grant management.
- Experience and proficiency with college accreditation procedures, practices, and standards.
- Experience with academic program development and enrollment growth is desired.
